Dude that thing looks killer man! Again, that axle looks great and everything done i love it. Great job 😁 Definitely some inspiration to get ready and get going on my Lj! Just need that 240v ran in my garage, Once i get some time and money ill start tearing my garage down to do so! Atleast my axle is prepped and clean just waiting to get parts installed! Any sort of clearance issues with that Truss at your set bumps?Im only planning to do a 3 inch lift 1.25 Body, but im wondering if the truss would smack something at full stuff, especially with hiline fenders ! Id like to do a truss since i would already be there doing all that work ! But many on the wrangler forum seem to strongly disagree against a truss🙄.....I'd atleast do the C Gussets and maybe weld the swaybar links to the C's since black magic brakes sells a kit for it and call it a day! Just brewing up ideas before i pull the trigger and get goin
Thanks! I don't see any possible clearance issues with the truss with my setup. The truss adds 3.5" to the top of the axle tube but my crank pulley and oil pan and everything is 5" higher than stock. Once I get the 35s on I will flex it out and see what hits and add more bumpstop if needed.
@@HardEarnedBacon Awesome, well let me know how it all pans out :)
I like that comment about Skyjacker not trying to re-invent the Johnny joint.Every company that has copied the John Currie flex joint thinks their version is better...LOL...
Exactly haha, I'll stick with the OG
The LJ is coming along nicely. Quality parts and a clean, rust free Jeep make for a fun project. Salt belt TJers must cry when they see a western desert TJ. 😆
Haha yeah I definitely appreciate the climate when working underneath these things.
Good to see our old friend persuasion making an appearance. That front D30 with the Ox housing is so damn purdy, can't wait to have a similar one in my XJ
Almost had to get the blue wrench for the sway bar links.
Great video. If you don't mind. What were your measurements on your control arms?
For the lowers I set them to 16 1/16" as recommended by Skyjacker, for the uppers I just turned them till I got the pinion angle I wanted so not sure what the final measurement for those is.
Cool. Thanks
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very thorough. Nice job.
What lift and tires are you running?
hi! what exactly makes the TJ a TJ6? Thanks!
Stretched to the overall length of a LJ but with a longer wheelbase because of the shorter rear overhang of the TJ. Same style the CJ6 had.
Good stuff
Nice work thanks
Thank for pointing this out it’s a shame that they lied
Really nice video, thanks! I am putting 35inch tires on my YJ, any idea how much I will need to lift the body so I have enough clearance etc?
Favorite YJ on UA-cam 🔥
Thanks!
Were the offset tie rod ends required? It seems that normal 1 ton tie rod ends would work. What was hitting that you needed them offset?
Diff cover
@@HardEarnedBacon I'm just mocking mine up tonight. It comes close to the diff cover at full lock (1/8") but does not hit. I just cut off the trac bar mount from the axle housing, because I was hitting that.
@@Bobbywolf64 Are you using the stock cover
@@HardEarnedBacon Yes. I doubt I could run a heavy duty cover without changing at least one joint to offset.
Any idea on the weight of that thing?
30ish lbs
Nice job looks great.
Thanks!
Along with improving the looks that's a nice gain of departure angle.
For sure, that hitch was low low
That looks way better than the old bumper....
Agreed, big improvement
Hi. I'm copying everything you did with my 87. I have the WJ Knuckles. I want to get the 1 ton steering through Parts Mike. How did you go about measuring? Did you have to install the passenger WJ knuckle to get the measurement to the pitman arm? I'm not sure how to get my measurements for the threaded bar? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Correct install the knuckles and have the weight of the jeep on the suspension with jackstands under the axle. Take measurements and just call Parts Mike with those measurements and they will make the kit for you.
Hardware comes from around the world, that's life.
Not the point.
@@HardEarnedBacon Then nothing is made in USA. Everything has a component/bolt/nut/paint in it. Heck, steel and aluminum are imported from somewhere else anymore. The pen that made the mark on the project was imported. What do YOU make? Is everything USA made and sourced? Is the fuel in the mail truck not imported?
@@HardEarnedBacon "100% USA grown steel wool, run thru a USA steel gin and USA made into steel yarn. Knitted into steel sheets in the USA. See my point?
The videography was absolutely amazing. Those shots from over the hood and could still get a feeling of how big the terrain actually is. I felt like I was sitting in the seat. Photos and videos don’t seem to capture the magnitude of some of these obstacles. Great job
Thanks! It's definitely a challenge trying to capture scale
My yj has 3.07 i think wich is way geared to high even with the ax15 swap I did .I'm actually thinking for what really do in mine 3.73 would be fine for me .
Could find a set of 4 cylinder axles with 4.10s and throw them in
@@HardEarnedBacon I'd like to find a good used setup for the front and rear .If I could to save some money .

I've always thought regearing is as much art as science. Your DIY abilities are impressive.
Thanks, this one didn't go perfect but I learned from it. 44 next
Really enjoying this build. This is exactly how I'm looking to set my LJ up and I've been waiting to see what you would do for axles
Thanks! Got a lot more coming
that is one sweet looking axle man ! Ive always been a fan of that locker with the cover it comes with, It just looks cool and serves a purpose which makes it better 😁! I bought a hp30 a year ago but its just been sitting, Once i get 240 ran in my garage ill quickly do a truss Jhonny joints on it,gears& my current lunchbox locker, ball joints and call it a day My BJ's are going bad on my LP30 so id rather do all the work on something i need/want
Thanks! That's exactly how I was, the HP sat outside for almost a year while I fooled around with other stuff haha.
Wow..5:13 gears.Will you be running 40in. tires?
Thats what you need for 33s especially on a 42rle Automatic !
5.13 is the standard for a 42rle these days lol
The 42rle has a .69 overdrive. If you didn't tregear to 5.13 for a D30 or 5.38 for a D44, the overdrive would be essentially useless.
Auto or manual? 35s?
Auto 35s
Ok makes sense. I have hp30 ready to go into mine, considering ratio but I have 6 spd.
All I have to say is good job. 🤙🏼
Thanks!
Great video! I know it’s been about a year but I just installed the same pan on my 91 YJ and it took 10.5 qts to show full on dipstick. Do you remember how many quarts you put in? Now I have a large puddle under the Jeep. I’m thinking it’s way over filled. Thank for any feedback
I think mine took less than half that. Did you fill it and check while it was running and in neutral?
@@HardEarnedBacon yes sir.. I posted it on YJ forum on Facebook and someone posted it the A999 takes 9 to 12 quarts depending on transmission lines. Just not sure why it’s leaking. Nothing like tracking down leaks! Thanks for responding so quickly!
@@TheHammstead Hmm not sure, mine definitely did not take that much.
The Bender sticker on your pipe bender got me....
Haha I have a Nibbler sticker on my metal nibbler as well
I have a 1987 jeep wrangler yj. Do I have to remove those bearing or seals whatever you call it?.if u can give me a feedback
Should be the exact same as whats in this video.
@HardEarnedBacon I'm thinking to used a socket and hit it with a hammer. I hope it works
I just put the power stop kit with stainless brake lines on my LJ she'll put you in the windshield with 33's now. I used an air bleeder to bleed the brakes, with the key on - don't forget to do that! Great upgrade
Yeah mine seems to be getting better and better the more I drive it.
How ya feeling after the gallon of brake cleaner you drenched those brakes in, in a closed garage? 🤣 The acetone, toluene, and heptane give you a lil buzz after prolonged, hotboxed exposure? 😜
I'm immune.
Nice work. In my experience the OEM brakes were sub-par with the factory 245/75-16s. After I went to 35x12.50s they were downright scary. Upgrading is the best money I've spent on my LJ.
They feel great on mine right now and it stops just as good as my Ram. We'll see once it gets tires.
I would have painted the calipers so they dont rust....
the calipers are plated and won't rust
Yep they are silver, shouldn't rust
I just did this - P0520 is usually the sensor - P06DD or PO6De can be the solenoid or the pump - but try fixing he P0520 first - then change oil and filter. Might get lucky.
Take a map gas torch heat your metal then hit it with that 110 welder you’ll get good penetration and it will take it easy on your welded and weld further. IMHO of course I have the same welder that’s what works for me but I’m no welder also .
Nice video. One thing I didn’t see was how you rotated the axle to get the new RUCAs at the longer length in. Any tips on that?
Good catch, I ended up just turning the arm back in and making it shorter till I could get the bolts in, then turned it back out again until they were long enough to get the angle right. You could also put a jack on the diff near the pinion yoke and jack it up to make it rotate.
I like Johnny Joints so much I bought 16 of them! 🤑
I'm 1/4 of the way there lol
I know the yj hard tops suck to get off how bad is the lj since it’s bigger and prolly worse lmao
Good question, I've been too scared to attempt it so far lol
It's not bad if you have something to lift from like ceiling joists. I use two 6' lifting slings and four dirtbike tie downs. I takes me about 30 casual minutes by myself start to finish. Manhandling it on your back? Fuhgeddaboudit!
FUCA’s made a world of difference on the blurple XJ when I finally got those installed so if your front pinion angle is wonky that’ll definitely contribute to the vibes
My angle is going to get a lot better with the HP 30 so I haven't bought them yet but I'll need them eventually anyway.
Nice video. Just did a 1" body & engine lift on my YJ. For the 2 radiator supports, there is an easy way to get them installed. You can pry off the old ones without taking the screws out. For the new longer ones - do one side at a time: leave the screw in place, grease up the screw and the upper hole of the new radiator support, put the radiator support in place -hold it in proper location as you lower the the front of body onto the radiator support (I used a floor jack) - the weight of the body will plop the radiator support onto the screw for a secure fit.
John Currie makes some top notch stuff...
